Vicky Hamlin’s adenomyosis pain was repeatedly dismissed as anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome and even loneliness because she lived by herself connie_dimsdale reports:

Before 2016, I had no health problems. I was very active. I ran the marathon, and I cycled from London to Paris. I travelled for work.
At first, doctors thought she had a tropical disease because she had just returned from travelling, so she was put in isolation. She was told it could be anxiety or IBS [irritable bowel syndrome] but endometriosis was never suggested.She said: “I was told all sorts. I was told I was acclimatising even though I’m British. I was told it was from anxiety and irritable bowel syndrome because I was having so many digestive issues. No one mentioned endometriosis at all.
She said: “They just said they wouldn’t really examine it further yet I was in hospital all the time. I asked to be referred to a gynaecologist and they said it was a 15-month wait. So I then my privately to a local gynaecologist who I was recommended.” She saw an endometriosis specialist in March 2017. “My consultant said the endometriosis had been lying dormant for perhaps since I was 18. I’m 38 now and I got sick when I was 32,” she said. He operated on her within two weeks.
