Abused Lancashire mum set out for 'revenge' with petrol, matches, swords and balaclavas
A woman who had been subjected to domestic violence planned a revenge attack on a man who she believed had wronged her, and set off to torch his car before being caught, a court heard.
The trio pleaded guilty to the offences and pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court. Ms Obrusik told the court on Thursday that Bi, 43, and the teenager intended to torch a car and had recruited Ashraf, 37, to be the driver in the plan. Ashraf had sourced the weapons and agreed to take them to a location in Burnley to carry out the plan.
Ms Johnson said the plan was foiled before the defendants had chance to carry it out, and nothing was ever set alight. Since her arrest, Bi has taken steps to address her mental health struggles but could be helped further by the Probation Service in relation to her thinking skills, which fell short on the night she was arrested, she added. Mr Bashir, defending the teenager, said the youngster had witnessed escalating abuse in his family and felt powerless to protect his mother.
Sentencing, Recorder Richard Clews, said: "In your case Bi, I am told that this situation arose out of an abusive marriage and that you were subjected to abuse over a period of time. I have no way of determining whether that is true or not but for these purposes I am prepared to accept that that is what was on your mind.
