The locally-hired coach screams good luck as European Cup Winners’ Cup star is front and centre.
Aberdeen will be hoping the omens are good ahead of their Europa Conference League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Dons arrived in Germany on Wednesday evening to finalise their preparations for tonight’s group stage opener with the Bundesliga giants in the Deutsche Bank Park. And in a twist of fate, Aberdeen’s locally-hired team bus has the German registration plate ‘Simmy 444’. The nickname is one of their most famous players and European hero Neil Simpson, who is currently the loans manager with the club. Simpson is a fans’ favourite at the Dons having come through the ranks and gone on to become an integral part of Aberdeen’s most successful team that went on to win the European Cup Winners’ Cup and Super Cup.
Aberdeen are in Group G along with competition favourites Eintracht Frankfurt, HJK and PAOK. They start against the much-fancied Germans who beat Rangers in the Europa League Final last year.
