The 26-year-old joins the Dons after leaving Wigan Athletic and having spending last season on loan at Dundee United.

The 26-year-old playmaker was a free agent after terminating his Wigan Athletic contract over the summer and has previously had success in Scotland during stints with St Mirren and a loan spell at Dundee United last season. McGrath could now feature in the Dons' crucial Europa League playoff tie against Swedish outfit BK Hacken on Thursday night, subject to international clearance being granted in time.

He told the club's website: "I’m really delighted to get the deal done and I’m excited about the season ahead. The size of the club sells itself and the way the manager wants to play suits me so hopefully I can add something to the team. It’s a really exciting challenge and I want to be part of something special here.”
