Improving the Euroroute is one of a number of projects Prime Minister Rishi Sunak claims will receive funding now that HS2 has been scrapped
Part of funds earmarked for a major rail project in England is set to be spent on upgrading the A75 instead.Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told the Conservative party conference on Wednesday that the section of the High Speed 2 train link between the West Midlands and Manchester was being scrapped.
Dumfries and Galloway MP Alister Jack is “delighted” at the move but the Scottish Secretary has admitted “we’ve got to thrash out the details”, with First Minister Humza Yousaf reported to have said he has doubts the money will be forthcoming. The report doesn’t say how much money the project will receive, only that the “key project” will involve “providing the funding to upgrade the A75 to improve links between Scotland and the main port to Northern Ireland”.
Dumfries and Galloway Council leader, Conservative councillor Gail Macgregor, said: “The A75 is a vital artery for communities and commerce across Dumfries and Galloway and the wider UK, and we welcome the announcement by the Prime Minister that there will be investment to improve the A75 following the recommendations in the Union Connectivity Review.
