Oleksiy Arestovych was the second most popular man in Ukraine after the president. But he has never been afraid to swim against the tide.

“I am still involved in the sector of national security and international relationships – like public diplomacy, information warfare, and other things I cannot explain because it’s secret,” he explains. “I do the same things as before but with an ‘ex-’ in front.”

“If we made mistakes I said so directly in the president’s eyes,” he said. “If our people are going into darkness I will ask them to come back to the light.” He does not comment on the presidency question and gives a politician’s answer about his future plans. “I have no political ambitions – I have a desire to help my country,” he said. “Politics is not a goal for me, but a tool. In this sense, I am ready to go into politics.”over the prospects for Ukraine’s counteroffensive to liberate Russian-occupied territory, he radiates confidence.

The former spokesman is full of praise for Ukraine’s battlefield commander, General Valeriy Zaluzhny, for his ingenuity with limited resources.
