Tony Khan is a Jaguars executive and moonlights as Fulham's vice chairman... no wait, he is the chairman of TruMedia networks... while doubling as CEO of All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Whew. How does he juggle it all? He discusses with mr_jasonjones:
and a sports analytics company, Tony Khan stays busy. Then, somehow, he finds time to be the president, general manager and CEO of All Elite Wrestling , which has become one of the biggest professional wrestling promotions outside of World Wrestling Entertainment .Khan is chief football strategy officer for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He started the Jaguars’ football technology and analytics group in 2012 after his father, Shad, purchased the team.
With everything Khan’s involved with, the question that often comes up is, “How?” How does he balance so many executive roles — and successfully?about juggling his many roles in and out of the sports world. During the NFL Draft, I might be doing more with the NFL, but on the other hand, during the Premier League transfer window and the time leading up to the transfer window, I might be more focused on that than anything. I typically would be really focused on Fulham anytime there’s a transfer window approaching or when we’re in the midst of a transfer window. That’s how it plays out, but every week, there’s a lot of focus on wrestling.
Yes, it was thrilling. It’s great that the Jaguars are building a presence in London. Fulham is such an important part of my family’s lives and for me personally. Fulham is so important to me, and I love that we’ve built a great fan base for the Jaguars in London over the last decade. The Jaguars were No. 31 out of 32 in terms of popularity in the U.K. 10 years ago.
Our pay-per-view business has taken off this year. We’ve expanded and added a fifth event with “Forbidden Door” in partnership with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, which was a huge success. It actually had the biggest debut of any of our pay-per-view franchise debuts. All year long, we’ve had really great support from the fans on pay-per-view and TV, and next year, we’re running live events in exciting new places that we’ve never been on the West Coast and looking to do more international events.
For the first few months with no fans and we were still learning, it was a big advantage to have Daily’s Place. I got the idea for that because I was trying to find ways we were going to format a wrestling show and was thinking about this a lot. The lockdown stuff really hit hard the night thewas shut down, Wednesday, March 11, 2020, and we were actually in Salt Lake City for “Dynamite” that night, and really everything shut down after that show.
