Certain schemes are available
With inflation at 10.1%, and rising food and fuel costs, the cost of living crisis is hitting everyone in their pockets. Some help is available though and people claiming Universal Credit may be able to take advantage of certain schemes aimed at claimants.
Advice continues for those really struggling: "You can also ask for a hardship payment if you cannot pay for rent, heating, food or hygiene needs because you got a sanction. You need to pay it back through your Universal Credit payments - they’ll be lower until you pay it back."Universal Credit is a payment for those both in and out of work, which is designed to help with your living costs. You may be able to get it if you’re on a low income, out of work or you cannot work.
Lower water bills Millions of families claiming benefits like Universal Credit can lower their household costs through a scheme that caps water bills. WaterSure allows customers to be protected from paying surging rates even if using more than the average amount of water. To apply, a household must be using a water meter and have a certain number of school-age children or use a substantial amount of water for medical reasons.
£150 Warm Home Discount payments The Warm Home Discount scheme pays £150 to vulnerable people to help towards their energy bills in the colder months.Changes to eligibility for this benefit mean people claiming Disability Living Allowance , Personal Independence Payments or Attendance Allowance will no longer be able to apply for the Warm Home Discount scheme.
