The third single taken from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill features a credit for John Stephens, who is better known today as John Legend. A 19 year old John Legend plays piano on ‘Everything is Everything’, after impressing Hill with a Stevie Wonder cover and an original song of his.

After she performed ‘To Zion’ at ONE MusicFest in Atlanta in 2022, a 25-year-old Zion surprised his mum on stage with his two children - at which point Hill introduced her son and grandchildren to the audience.
Hill later released a remixed version of ‘Turn Your Lights Down Low’ by Bob Marley and The Wailers in 1999.The album made history in many ways, including seeing Hill become the first woman to win five Grammy awards in one night in 1999. One win in particular was for Album of the Year which was the first hip hop album to ever receive this award. During Hill’s acceptance speech she exclaimed “this is crazy, because this is hip-hop music!”.
Lauryn Hill’s legacy continues to this day, with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill becoming certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2021, making her the first ever female hip hop artist to receive this certification in the US.
