A serial killer and a TikTok influencer and her mother who murdered two men are among the criminals locked up over the last month

Killer nurse Lucy Letby, who murdered seven babies and tried to kill six more, was among the worst offenders sent to jail in the UK in the last month. The 'evil' serial killer will die behind bars after being handed a whole-life term, while more than 10 other offenders jailed in August will spend at least two decades locked up for their crimes.

Doyle - who called for the killing of members of the LGBT+ community and the extermination of Jewish people in a range of online posts - was jailed in August. When officers searched the 40-year-old's home, on the edge of the Peak District, they also found fascist and racist manifestos and books. Rashid Gedel, Shiroh Ambersley and Harvey Canavan An aspiring lawyer was stabbed to death in a case of mistaken identity as he returned from a trip to Waitrose. Sven Badzak, 22, and a 16-year-old friend were attacked by a group of six young men in Kilburn, north-west London, in February 2021.

Harvey Canavan, 19, from Maida Vale, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter and unlawful wounding and Lior Agbayan, 20, had fled to the Ivory Coast and has not returned, jurors were told. The remaining two suspects have not been identified, the court heard. Gilead aimed a Glock pistol at the 25-year-old from behind on the balcony of a flat in West Norwood, south London, in March 2019. Mr Wiggan, who had travelled there to collect a drugs debt of £10,000, was later declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

O'Pray, from Swinton, Salford, was found guilty of murder following a three-week trial at Manchester Crown Court and was later sentenced to life with a minimum term of 28 years behind bars. He was also found guilty of wounding with intent by slashing and stabbing teenager Harvey Reilly during the same incident in the early hours of Sunday August 22 last year.

Jacob’s mother, Gemma Barton, was also jailed for 10 years for causing or allowing his death and child cruelty, after being cleared of murder and manslaughter.

On the night of her death, Ms Guilherme had sent a series of messages to friends and family as a row with Xavier escalated. The victim texted a cousin to say “he picked up a knife” and told the defendant’s sister: “David is crazy pointed a knife at me.” Joe Rankin Joe Rankin made a chilling confession to a friend that he had killed a woman. The 34-year-old will now spend a minimum of 24 years behind bars.

Rankin stabbed Ms Potter “repeatedly” to her chest, stomach, arm, leg and neck, he said. The defendant also admitted to having sex with Ms Potter’s body after her death. Rankin, of Langtoft Road, Slad, Stroud, returned home after the murder, but returned to Ms Potter’s flat for about 90 minutes on September 28. The prosecutor told the court that only Rankin knew why he killed Ms Potter and why he went back to her property.

He also cut his own neck to make it appear that the 59-year-old had attacked him, and managed to bolt her flat’s front door from the outside to imply she had been alone when the injuries were inflicted, indicating a suicide. Ansbro was jailed for life at his sentencing hearing in August and must serve a minimum of 18 years before he can be considered for parole. He was also handed a further four years and nine months for sexual offences he committed against a teenager in the 1990s and a child cruelty offence.

Judge Thomas Welsh KC handed Starrs an extended sentence comprising 10 and a half years in custody and two years of supervision upon release. Sentencing the defendant, who appeared via video link from custody, the judge said: “You have been convicted of appalling crimes against two innocent teenage girls and you have been assessed as being of very high risk of sexual violence on release.

Mr Jensen-Wallace’s girlfriend Chantelle Crawford, said he had matured and wanted to leave his demons behind. According to Ms Crawford, just a week before his death, he had told her: “I don’t want any part of it anymore, it’s clearly not working for me and I want to do good things, I know I can do it.” She told the court: “Devon’s second chance was callously snatched away. And with that, my life, soul and heart has gone with him.

Smith, from East Dulwich in south-east London, was arrested by the NCA in November 2022, after investigators discovered he was sharing abusive material on the dark web. The 35-year-old was online asking for sexual images of a child at the time of his arrest. Tyrone Dean and Louis Parkinson Members of the public suffered “savage injuries” in a daytime robbery and knife attack in central London in October last year. Tyrone Dean, 24, and Louis Parkinson, 26, wore masks as they tried to snatch mobile phones and flee on bicycles.

Dean, of Willow Walk, Haringey, north London, admitted robbery, possession of a knife, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, theft, two counts of wounding, attempting to wound, and possession of cannabis. Parkinson, of Catherall Street, Highbury, north London, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of a knife, attempting to wound, wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and possession of cannabis.

After the attack, the woman contacted two friends who arrived at the property and Balsevics left. The woman reported what happened to police and Balsevics was arrested in the early hours of the following day, May 25. The 23-year-old was arrested after being seen acting inappropriately towards his victim by a bus driver in March 2022, while Siddique was on long-term sick leave, the Crown Prosecution Service said. He pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child in January and has now been sentenced to seven years and seven months in prison.

Convicted rapist Cosmin-Nicolae Vasioiu, 47, prowled Exeter city centre looking for a lone woman to attack in June last year. The Romania national followed his victim as she walked home from a night out with friends and attacked her in the grounds of St Bartholomew’s Cemetery. Vasioiu, of Topsham Road, Exeter, had denied rape but was convicted by a jury following a trial after DNA evidence linked him to the victim. He was jailed for 18 years with an extended period of five years on licence and will have to serve at least 12 years’ imprisonment before he can apply for parole.

During the trial, the court was played CCTV of an altercation between Justin and Haig, who were affiliated to rival gangs in Glasgow’s east end. Justin had arrived at the train station with a group of friends, while Haig and an acquaintance were already at the station. The 33-year-old was convicted by a jury of murdering seven babies and trying to kill six more while working in the Countess of Chester Hospital’s neonatal unit between 2015 and 2016. The judge handed her a whole-life order at Manchester Crown Court on Monday, for each offence, making her only the fourth woman in UK history to be told she will never be released from prison.

Letby was cleared of two counts of attempted murder. The jury of seven women and four men were unable to reach verdicts from the 10-month trial on six counts of attempted murder in relation to five children. Prosecutors are expected to decide next month whether to press for a retrial on those counts Sentencing him to life with a minimum term of 18 years, Judge Shaun Smith KC said the attack was “determined and sustained”. He told the court: “It was a brutal, frenzied killing and a needless death. In truth, only two people know what happened. Kathryn is dead and you have never really revealed the full truth, although there is a strong suggestion that drugs and alcohol played a role in what happened.

The two men had a “volatile” friendship and had spent the evening of August 13 last year drinking and playing pool at the Anchor pub, a court heard. Just after 10.30pm an argument broke out and they were asked to leave by the landlady. Later, neighbours near their home in Loampit Vale heard voices saying “shut your mouth before I kill you” and “stop it”.

Baptiste later retracted his confession and claimed he left Mr Booty “alive and well”. Baptiste denied murdering Mr Booty at his trial and a jury deliberated for just over two hours to find him guilty of the offence. Another female officer complained in 2005 that Provan sent her “nuisance” messages but nothing was done and the issue was dealt with “informally”, the court was told. He also allegedly contacted a 16-year-old girl after she gave her details as a witness in 2003.

Michael Hillier and Rachel Fulstow A former couple were jailed for plotting the “brutal and cold-blooded murder” of an electrician. Father-of-two Liam Smith, 38, was shot in the face and then covered in acid after being lured outside his home in Wigan, on November 24 last year. The trial heard Fulstow had met Mr Smith in York in 2019. She said they had “non-consensual sex” at a hotel, but she did not describe it as rape. Hillier, of Ecclesall Road, Sheffield, told the court that in early 2022 his then-girlfriend confided in him she was “graphically raped” by Mr Smith and together they decided to “go down the vigilante route” to “seek justice”.

Anthony Stinson Anthony Stinson will serve at least 24 years behind bars for killing a stranger in her home as her baby slept upstairs. The 31-year-old attacked Charlotte Wilcock as she sat on the doorstep of her house in Blackburn smoking a cigarette. Stinson pleaded guilty to Ms Wilcock’s murder on the first day of his trial at Preston Crown Court. A judge handed him a life sentence with a minimum term of 24 years and two months.

The judge went on: “You betrayed her trust in that you murdered her in her own home.” He said the attack was both “sadistic” and “sexual” in nature, because the roofer targeted certain parts of the victim’s body. Alexander McKellar, 31, caused the death of 63-year-old Tony Parsons by hitting him with his car on the A82 between Glasgow and Glencoe on September 29 2017.
