Ormskirk's £3m courtroom hotel plan still on track with work set to resume after significant delays

Plans to transform an historic courthouse into a modern restaurant and aparthotel complex are still on track despite significant delays.

It is hoped to created more than 100 jobs once completed and the company behind the plan Walker & Williams have previously spoken about their hopes for it to lead to a wider regeneration of the town centre. As with so many other developments, the pandemic meant that the initial 2020 target for opening was no longer possible but bosses at Walker & Williams hoped to have the venue open in 2022. But little work has taken place this year leaving that target unviable.

Operations Director Ross Taylor explained the slowed progress was due to the company "restructuring the funding of the development to a more suitable financial product". He said: "We expect work to commence back on site early in the new year and very much look forward to welcoming guests and local patrons shortly thereafter.

The family-run Lancashire business bought the site from the government for £480,000 after beating more than 20 developers to win the tender. Other options included more traditional national and local hotel firms, while some bids would have seen the building converted to housing.
