At least 21 bodies found of cult followers ‘who starved themselves to death on orders of leader to meet Jesus'

Police raided Shakahola forest after receiving a tip off of "ignorant citizens starving to death under the pretext of meeting Jesus after being brainwashed" by Nthenge.

The caller urged cops to investigate the crowds taking part in the excessive fasting practice, warning there could be a shallow mass grave within the woodland. Eleven other followers of the church - seven men and four women aged 17 to 49 - were taken to hospital, three of them in critical condition, after being rescued on April 14.

Nthenge turned himself in to cops a day later and was charged last month while six associates were also arrested.
