Long before the likes of WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram were a thing, every Glasgow teen used MSN Messenger and it basically set us up for the social media revolution that was to come.

Before group chats and the social media platforms we know today, MSN was the messengers of all messengers.

1. Darting home from school to log on After finishing school, you'd rush home to be able to log straight on to MSN before you had your tea. Despite spending the whole day with your school friends, you'd then spend the night talking to them and catching up on the gossip from that day. 5. Asking for MSN names, not a phone number Before adding friends on Facebook and following someone's Instagram account, you'd have to write down the MSN name of the person you wanted to add. You would never ask for someone's number and if you got a letter wrong, you'd be fuming.

9. Spamming your friends with 'winks' Winks were very much part of the fabric of MSN. From the laughing woman to the knuckles knocking on your screen, they were pretty much used in every chat. 14. Emoticons Emoticons were the original emojis. On MSN, you could also create your own shortcuts to access them more quickly.
