Fifteen images that received highly commended awards have been released ahead of the winners’ awards ceremony on 10th October
A hungry possum, strolling leopard and two storks hunting by a controlled fire are among the first images released in this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.
Developed and produced by the Natural History Museum in London, the collection showcases some lesser-known behaviours and habitats while exposing humans’ impact on the natural world.Caitlin Henderson finds an unexpected guest on her balcony as a possum snacks on a large cicada. ‘There were heads here, wings there’ Caitlin says. She had peeked out and spotted a common brushtail possum sitting on the windowsill.
