While many landmarks from centuries ago still stand today, Glasgow has changed massively over the last few hundred years. Images taken in the city from around the turn of the 20th century, for example, show recognisable streets and buildings such as George Square and the Glasgow Necropolis that on the surface don't look all that dissimilar to how they do in 2023.

Look closer, however, and you will see countless differences that make it hard to believe they are even the same place today. Join us as we take a journey back in time with these 12 photographs taken around Glasgow in the 19th and early 20th century that are sure to leave you jaw-dropped.Taken in 1895, this photo shows the corner of Queen Street and Ingram Street at Exchange Square.
