Graham & Brown says it will increase investment at its more modern Padiham site instead
Around 100 jobs could be lost as an international home interiors group considers plans to close its Blackburn manufacturing site.
The traditional wallcovering production will be moved to mainland Europe. Staff were informed of the plans these week and have been told that around 100 jobs could be loss.Graham & Brown was founded in 1946 and bosses say it must adapt to meet the needs of the global market. They said demand for traditional wallpaper has dropped as more environmentally friendly and digitally-printed products have become more popular.
“Due to reducing demand for traditionally-manufactured product and rising production inefficiencies as a direct result, our manufacturing operation at India Mill in Blackburn is no longer fit for purpose. Sadly this means we need to explore the difficult decision to close the operation. “What remains paramount is that we continue to support colleagues during what will be a personally unsettling period.” He added: “As a business that’s been innovating the market for over 75 years, we need to look ahead and respond to these changes to make sure Graham & Brown remains at the very forefront of our industry, with a more efficient, flexible, sustainable and digital-led operation capable of delivering our customers’ changing needs and meeting our ESG goals.
