A Scots mental health charity chief says 'change' is 'desperately needed' as over 1,000 local youngsters battling poor mental health are on a waiting list for treatment - despite a Government pledge to abolish that list by March 2023.He has spoken out following new statistics which reveal that 1,083 children and young people are awaiting treatment from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, quarter ending June 2023.
He told Glasgow Live: "The latest figures show that despite progress in some areas, too many young people continue to wait too long to receive support for their mental health. The figures were released on the same day that the Scottish Government published its Programme for Government for 2023/24. The Scottish Government is now being asked to make the treatment of mental health issues a key national priority, prioritising spending and avoiding a potential lost generation of children and young people with mental health problems.He told Glasgow Live: "The latest figures highlighting that more than 6,600 Scots children and young people are still waiting for treatment from mental health services, with 224 waiting over a year, is extremely alarming.
